On finding your right story

It centers around a man who one day sets a lofty goal for himself—to become the world's greatest archer. With unwavering determination, he embarks on a journey, traveling from one land to another in search of the perfect teacher. Despite his efforts, he fails to find the mentor he seeks.

Undeterred, he continues his quest and eventually finds himself in a forest unlike any other. Every single tree in this forest has a target drawn on it, with arrows perfectly hitting the bullseye. Overwhelmed by the spectacle, the man realizes that he has stumbled upon the very person who can guide him. Approaching the master archer, he inquires, "How did you achieve such remarkable precision?" The master's response is both simple and profound: "I shoot the arrows first, and then I paint the targets around them."

This story beautifully captures the essence of storytelling—the ability to shape our reality and find meaning. It reminds me of a recent book I started reading, "The Science of Storytelling" by Will Storr. The opening line of the book is a thought-provoking one: "In the end, we will all die." Storr suggests that since our time on this Earth is limited, storytelling becomes a vital avenue through which we discover purpose and create connections with others.

Stories have an extraordinary ability to transport us to different worlds, ignite our imagination, and evoke a range of emotions.
